General Motors has revealed that it has created a version of its RemoteLink smartphone app that will work with the new Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch.

Owners of RemoteLink-compatible vehicles from GM’s lineup will be able to started their vehicles from the smartwatch as well as controlling the vehicle’s locks straight from the app. In addition, they’ll be able to honk the car’s horn or flash its lights in case they’re having a hard time locating their car.

According to the American automaker, the app will take advantage of the vehicle’s OnStar system in order to operate, but owners won’t need an OnStar subscription to take advantage of the smartwatch app. Other automakers such as Mercedes-Benz have also announced that they’re working on smartwatch apps that work on their vehicles.
